The cholera outbreak in South Sudan has claimed at least 334 lives, authorities reported.
The South Sudan Ministry of Health confirmed that the outbreak has affected seven out of the country’s ten states.
Since October, the epidemic has spread rapidly, with more than 19,320 reported cases of cholera.
In response to the growing crisis, the South Sudanese government, in partnership with the United Nations, launched a vaccination program on December 10, 2024.
This initiative aims to curb the further spread of the deadly disease and protect vulnerable citizens.
Meanwhile, the neighboring country of Sudan faces its own cholera crisis, with over 49,000 cases reported since August 12.
The ongoing war in Sudan has driven an estimated 880,000 refugees into South Sudan, heightening the strain on already fragile healthcare systems.
Efforts to control the outbreak remain a top priority for both local and international health authorities.
The situation continues to unfold, with the government urging citizens to take preventive measures to avoid the spread of the disease.
