Delegation from Qatar in Sudan to discuss supporting the health sector

A Qatari delegation led by Dr. Mohamed Salah, the Director of the International Relief and Development Sector at the Qatari Red Crescent, arrived in the Red Sea state today to discuss assessing the situation and supporting the healthcare sector in Sudan.

They were received at Port Sudan International Airport by Dr. Ibrahim Malik Al-Nasser, the Director-General of the Health Sector in the Red Sea state, and Rashed Al-Muqeerh, the Acting Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Sudan, among others.

This visit is part of a Qatari-Egyptian initiative coordinated with the Sudanese Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist those affected by the conflict in Sudan. The visit aims to assess the healthcare situation and identify appropriate support and interventions to help the healthcare sector respond to the medical and health needs resulting from the conflict in Sudan.

The Qatari and Egyptian delegations will meet with the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, tomorrow after the arrival of the Egyptian delegation to Sudan on Tuesday. They will hold meetings involving the Qatari Red Crescent to discuss and implement the Egyptian-Qatari initiative to support the healthcare sector, and to help the victims of the conflict in Sudan.

The delegations will also assess the situation in coordination with the Ministry of Health, conduct field visits to several hospitals in Port Sudan, and hold meetings with the Humanitarian Aid Commission and humanitarian partners.
