Protesters gathered during the IMF and World Bank’s annual meeting in Marrakech, accusing the institutions of exacerbating inequality.
The “People’s Alternative Global Tribunal” organized by Fight Inequality allowed activists to present how the institutions’ policies affected their countries.
According to Bhumika Muchhala, the tribunal found the IMF and World Bank guilty of colluding with corporations, branding them as “the biggest scam of the century.”
While the IMF aids struggling governments with controversial economic policies, the World Bank’s sluggish lending process is criticized.
The meeting, held on the African continent after half a century, aims to address the region’s challenges, including a debt crisis, climate change, and a slow reduction in poverty.
