The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has accused Rwanda of violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity by sending troops to support rebel groups in the country’s eastern region.
The East African Court of Justice has begun proceedings on a case filed by the DRC against Rwanda, alleging that Kigali has been involved in supporting the M23 rebel group.
The DRC government, along with the United States and France, has accused Rwanda of sponsoring the M23. However, Kigali has denied these allegations.
Eastern DRC has been plagued by years of instability, with over 120 armed groups fighting for power, land, and valuable mineral resources.
The M23 is the most powerful of these groups, and its activities have contributed significantly to the ongoing conflict in the region.
