Egypt’s foreign ministry spokesperson said that the country summoned Sweden’s chargé d’affaires on Tuesday to denounce the incidents of burning copies of the Quran.

Additionally, five anti-Islam activists in Copenhagen set fire to a Quran in front of the Egyptian embassy on Tuesday, marking the third such incident in Denmark within a week.

This follows Quran burnings in nearby Sweden.

Egypt informed the chargé d’affaires of its “strong condemnation and complete rejection … of the unfortunate and repeated incidents of burning and abuse of copies of the Holy Koran,” the statement added.

The Egyptian authorities conveyed their “strong condemnation and complete rejection” of the unfortunate and recurrent incidents involving the burning and mistreatment of copies of the Holy Quran to the chargé d’affaires, as stated in the official statement.
