In a bid to strengthen their long-standing partnership, Ethiopia and Djibouti committed to closer collaboration in both political and economic realms.
The pledge emerged during bilateral talks between Tagese Chafo, Speaker of the Ethiopian House of Peoples’ Representatives, and a Djiboutian delegation led by Dileita Mohamed Dileita, President of Djibouti’s National Council.
The two sides expressed a shared desire to elevate their existing people-to-people ties, recognizing the deep historical and cultural connections that bind their nations.
They focused on identifying avenues to enhance cooperation in key areas like infrastructure development, trade, and regional security.
Speaker Chafo highlighted Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to foster shared prosperity within the region, emphasizing the crucial role played by interconnected infrastructure projects.
He pointed to existing roads, railways, and electricity grids as tangible examples of this collaborative spirit.
“Our interconnected infrastructure serves as a vital bridge, bringing our people and economies closer,” Chafo remarked.
He further urged parliamentarians from both countries to actively contribute to strengthening political and economic relations.
Both sides reiterated the importance of prioritizing regional peace and security as a foundation for sustainable development. They pledged to work together towards ensuring stability and prosperity for their citizens and the wider region.
The Djiboutian delegation, led by President Dileita, is currently on a three-day official visit to Ethiopia.

President Dileita is scheduled to address the Ethiopian House of Peoples’ Representatives on Thursday, further underscoring the significance of this bilateral interaction.
