According to local emergency services on Monday, a fire at the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria’s capital resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with two others sustaining injuries.
Nkechi Isa, the spokesperson for the State Emergency Management Agency in Abuja, stated that the fire erupted during the morning while workers were engaged in generator maintenance.
The victims were identified as Nigerian maintenance workers.
Isa explained that the blaze was triggered by the explosion of a 2,000-liter diesel tank within the generator house.
Currently, two maintenance workers are undergoing treatment for severe burns.
In response to the incident, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences for the victims and extended his government’s full support to the Canadian government, as per a statement from his office.
