A devastating fire broke out early Tuesday at the 12-story Grand Kartal hotel in northwestern Turkey, killing at least 76 people, including two who jumped to escape the flames, officials said. The blaze, which occurred during a school holiday at the popular ski resort of Kartalkaya in Bolu province, also left 51 others injured. The fire broke out around 3:27 a.m. at the hotel, which was packed with guests during the start of the two-week winter school break. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that 45 of the victims had been identified, with recovery efforts continuing for the remaining bodies. “We are heartbroken. Those responsible will face justice,” Yerlikaya said. Survivors described scenes of chaos, with guests on the upper floors attempting to escape, some using sheets to climb down or jumping from windows. “People were screaming, some tried to jump,” said Atakan Yelkovan, a guest on the third floor. The hotel had 238 registered guests at the time. Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu reported that one person was in serious condition, while 17 others were treated and released. 10 infants killed in northern India hospital fire

 At least 10 infants were killed when a fire broke out at a hospital in northern Indian Uttar Pradesh state, officials said Saturday. The fire erupted at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Jhansi Medical College in the state’s Jhansi district late Friday. Health official Sachin Mahor told reporters that more than 50 babies were admitted to the unit and confirmed that 10 died. He said others were rescued. Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the administration and officials have been instructed “to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing.” Footage on television showed anguished relatives wailing for infants in the hospital. More than 100 evacuated from east London tower block fire

 More than 200 firefighters have responded to a fire at a high-rise tower block partly used by residents in Dagenham, east London. At least 100 people have been evacuated from the residential building after the fire started shortly before 3:00 a.m. (0200GMT). Four patients were treated at the scene according to the London Ambulance Service. Two patients were taken to hospital. “We were called at 2.52 a.m. today (26 August) to reports of a fire on Freshwater Road in Dagenham,” a spokesman said. “We sent a large number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, incident response officers, an advanced paramedic in critical care, emergency planning officers, a command support vehicle and members of our hazardous area response team.” “Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters are responding to a fire on Freshwater Road in Dagenham,” The London Fire Brigade wrote on X an hour after the fire started. Alan Bendell, a fire station commander, said the fire was “producing heavy smoke and we’re advising local residents to keep windows and doors closed.” A similar fire in 2017 caused the death of 72 people in London’s Grenfell Tower.
