Fights after a Libyan football match leave several people injured

Clashes following a football match in western Libya left several injured, while a government building burned in Tripoli, capital city Tripoli.

Fighting erupted in Tarhuna, about 80 kilometres south of the capital, after Al-Ittihad and Asswehly match, on Thursday evening game.

The match, held behind closed doors, was suspended before the final whistle after penalty protest, by Al-Ittihad players over call.

The incident triggered clashes between supporters and security forces outside the stadium, escalating tensions across the town rapidly further unrest.

The Libyan Presidential Council said attackers targeted the Council of Ministers headquarters in Tripoli with arson and sabotage acts violence.

The fire was quickly contained, LANA reported, authorities said, no major spread was reported in early response operations efforts contained.

Council calls for investigation and urges legal resolution rather than violence following the unrest and public anger across affected areas.
