Fire contained at Kenya airport, no flight disruptions

A grassland fire broke out in the northern section of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport compound in Nairobi on Friday evening, but airport operations remain unaffected, according to Kenya Airways.

The fire, the cause of which is currently under investigation, was located near a maintenance facility and away from the runway.

Emergency response teams, including airport firefighters and local fire services, were quickly on the scene and have managed to contain the blaze.

“The fire is not close to the runway. There’s not been any flight disruptions. They have managed to contain part of it,” said Henry Okatch, a Kenya Airways spokesperson.

An airport worker confirmed that operations at the airport were proceeding normally.
