Five dead in building collapse in Senegal’s capital

A government spokesperson has reported that a building collapse in Senegal’s capital, Dakar, resulted in the loss of five lives and injuries to eight individuals.

The cause behind the building’s collapse remains uncertain, and the number of individuals present during the incident on Wednesday morning in the Rufisque suburb of Dakar is yet to be determined.

Birame Faye, an official from the interior ministry who was present at the scene, reported on Wednesday that firefighters successfully recovered five deceased individuals from the debris.

Additionally, eight survivors were transported to a hospital for medical care.

Faye stated that investigations are currently in progress to ascertain the reason behind the collapse.

According to residents, the collapse might be connected to construction activities in a neighboring building.

The construction industry in Senegal is experiencing rapid growth, but regulation and adherence to safety protocols are frequently lacking.
