A fresh contingent of Ghanaian police officers arrived in Somalia on Saturday to join the continental peacekeeping and stabilization mission.
The specialized unit, designated as GFPU-5, deployed directly to key strategic hubs including Mogadishu, Baidoa, and the city of Beletweyne.
These personnel will actively support the Somali Police Force through targeted joint operations, specialized tactical training, and professional mentorship.
This newly arrived detachment replaces the outgoing GFPU-4 contingent, which recently completed its scheduled tour of duty in the country.
The incoming forces operate under the explicit mandate of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission, known regionally as AUSSOM.
Police Coordinator ACP Dr. Samuel Asiedu Okanta urged the arriving officers to maintain the highest standards of professional discipline.
He emphasized that the Ghanaian unit will play a vital role in reinforcing the domestic capabilities of the local police.
This security transition comes as Somalia steadily works toward assuming full, independent responsibility for its own national safety and stability.
