The Sudan Football Association has signed a three-year contract with Ghanaian coach Kwasi Appiah (63 years old) to manage the national team. He replaces Moroccan coach Ezzaki Badou, who left the team in August.
Appiah previously coached Sudan’s Al-Khartoum club from December 2014 to April 2017, achieving significant success, including a noteworthy run in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Ghanaian coach will lead the Sudanese national team during the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to start in November of this year. Egypt will host the team’s matches due to the political unrest in Sudan.
He previously coached the Ghanaian national team from 2012 to 2014 and played a significant role in their qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
In August, Appiah was temporarily appointed as the head of a three-member committee to manage the affairs of Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko as a transitional phase.
Sudan’s national team will face Togo and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the first and second rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in November.
The Sudan Football Association terminated its contract with Moroccan coach Ezzaki Badou, the former national team goalkeeper, after a short stint with the Sudanese national team following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
