Gunmen kill 30 people in Nigeria in coordinated attacks

At least 30 people have been killed in a brutal attack by gunmen in Nigeria’s northwestern Katsina State.

Local reports indicate that the attackers struck multiple areas, including Charanci, Safana, Kurfi, and Kaita, leaving trails of destruction.

Witnesses allege that bandits, notorious for their grip over the Baure village, are responsible for the deadly assault.

Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the Katsina State Police spokesman, confirmed the incident, stating investigations are ongoing to uncover more details.

Tragically, the assailants also set some victims’ bodies ablaze, with many others reported missing after the attack.

This tragedy reflects the escalating violence in Nigeria’s northwest, a region plagued by rampant banditry and insecurity.

Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics reports 614,937 deaths from violent attacks between May 2023 and April 2024.

The northwest region accounted for 206,030 of those fatalities, underscoring the dire security challenges in the area.

In a separate attack, Boko Haram terrorists killed two police officers at a station in the northeastern state of Borno.

The terrorists launched explosives and fired shots into the Ngazai police station, causing destruction and fatalities.

Authorities continue to grapple with rising violence, as civilians bear the brunt of these relentless attacks.
