At least 21 people have died and nearly a dozen others remain missing after heavy rains destroyed homes in north central Nigeria, officials said on Thursday.
Ibrahim Hussaini, head of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, told Reuters that flooding submerged 50 houses in two communities.
“So far, 21 bodies have been recovered while the search and rescue operation continues for over 10 people still unaccounted for,” he said.
Seasonal flooding is common in Nigeria, with the rainy season beginning in April.
