
Heavy snowfall disrupted travel across Algeria on Wednesday, closing roads and trapping dozens of vehicles in multiple provinces.
Civil defense teams rescued stranded motorists in Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Tizi Ouzou, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and Medea, with no casualties reported.
Traffic disruptions were also reported in Batna, Jijel, Mila, Setif, Bejaia, Khenchela, Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Bouira, and Tebessa.
Snow continued across Algeria’s mountainous and high-altitude regions, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and local communities alike.
Meteorologists warned that northern regions, especially central and eastern areas above 700 meters, would see continued snowfall through Wednesday evening.
Accumulation reached up to 25 centimetres in some locations, transforming landscapes into a stark winter spectacle.
In Tunisia, snow blanketed western regions, including Kasserine governorate’s Feriana, Foussana, and Tala, as well as Makthar in Siliana governorate.
Tunisia’s National Institute of Meteorology forecast heavy rainfall in northern areas and along the eastern coastal regions of Sousse, Monastir, and Mahdia.
Isolated hailstorms were expected in some regions, adding to the challenges for residents and local authorities managing the storm.
Authorities in both countries urged citizens to exercise caution, avoid non-essential travel, and follow weather updates as winter conditions persisted.
