
At MWC Barcelona 2025, Zambia’s Ministry of Technology and Science, in partnership with Huawei, launched a global showcase of their Smart Village project.
The initiative, revealed at a government industry forum, highlighted Zambia’s advancements in rural digital transformation.
The forum, focusing on secure network-cloud strategies, drew over 200 industry leaders.
Zambia’s first Smart Village, completed in July 2024, now boasts electricity and internet access, enabling telemedicine and remote education.
This project embodies a global trend of governments leveraging AI for improved public services.
Huawei’s Li Junfeng emphasized the critical role of digital transformation in enhancing national capabilities and citizen well-being, noting AI’s pivotal role.
Zambian Minister Felix C. Mutati stressed the Smart Village project’s alignment with Zambia’s Vision 2030, empowering citizens with digital skills.
He stated, “The digital transformation of Zambia is not only about technology — it is about the people, progress, and potential.”
Huawei’s Koh Hong-Eng led discussions on national digital transformation, showcasing the project’s impact.
