The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has dismissed a case brought by Sudan against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over allegations of interference in Sudan’s internal affairs.
In a ruling issued today, the court found that Sudan failed to present sufficient legal grounds for its claim that the UAE had violated international law by supporting Sudanese factions in the ongoing conflict. Sudan had accused the UAE of meddling in Sudan’s political landscape, specifically in connection to the power struggle between General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The ruling comes as Sudan faces increasing instability, with the ongoing conflict severely affecting its civilian population and economy. While Sudan has expressed disappointment over the ICJ’s decision, it has vowed to continue pursuing diplomatic avenues to hold foreign actors accountable for their roles in the conflict.
This decision marks a significant development in Sudan’s diplomatic efforts amid a backdrop of mounting international pressure to resolve the war and restore stability.
