Indian caught trying to smuggle $2M cash out of Zambia

Zambian customs officials apprehended a 27-year-old Indian national at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Saturday for allegedly attempting to smuggle over $2 million in cash and $500,000 worth of suspected gold.

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) reported that the individual was en route to Dubai when a multi-agency team intercepted him.

Authorities discovered $2,320,000 in cash and seven pieces of suspected gold in his luggage.

Investigations into the incident are currently underway, with the DEC issuing a stern warning against transnational organized crime.

This arrest follows a similar incident in 2023 involving Egyptians found with weapons, gold, and a large sum of cash.

Zambia, despite its rich mineral resources, grapples with widespread poverty.
