ISIS militants killed in clashes with Somali security forces

Somali security forces have killed several Islamic State fighters and seized eight militant outposts during ongoing military operations in the semi-autonomous Puntland region.

The Puntland army announced that the operation focused on the Cal Miskat mountains in the Bari region, resulting in the destruction of several IS military outposts and the elimination of numerous gunmen, including foreign fighters.

The army also reported shooting down nine drones loaded with explosives that were launched by IS forces.

Heavy fighting is currently underway as IS militants are entrenched within a cave in the mountains, according to military commanders.

Islamic State in Somalia is led by Abdul Qadir Mumin, a Puntland native, who is considered a key figure within the global Islamic State network.
