Japan provides $10 million aid to Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya

The Japanese government has announced that it will send 10 million dollars in emergency aid to Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya, where heavy rains and floods occurred at the end of last year.

Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the government of Prime Minister Kishida Fumio’s emergency aid support for the Horn of Africa countries where river floods have occurred.

In the statement, it was noted that Japan will send $10 million in emergency aid to Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya, where heavy rains and floods caused great damage in October-December 2023.

Accordingly, emergency assistance, including shelter, medical supplies and water supplies, will be delivered through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM).

In October-December 2023, heavy rainfall and river flooding killed scores of people in Horn of Africa countries including Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya.
