Joint operation by DRC troops and UN Peacekeepers in North Kivu

DRC government forces and United Nations peacekeepers initiated a joint operation to bolster security in Goma, the capital of North Kivu province.

Goma, along with Sake, faces threats from various armed groups, including the M23 rebels, whom Congo alleges Rwanda supports.

Although Rwanda denies these accusations, UN experts have documented evidence suggesting Rwanda’s backing of the M23, as indicated in a recent report.

During the launch of a joint patrol, the UN’s Force commander, Lt. Gen. Otávio Rodrigues de Miranda Filho from Brazil, reaffirmed his forces’ dedication to assisting the Congolese troops and safeguarding the citizens of the DRC.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in the displacement of local residents from their villages.
