Libya parliament approves election laws

The Libyan House of Representatives unanimously approved the issuance of laws for the election of the head of state and the Council of Nation, submitted by the committee for the preparation of electoral laws “6+6,” as announced by the spokesperson for the Council, Abdullah Belhaq.

During the session on Monday in Benghazi, Council President Aguila Saleh Issa stated that he received the laws for the election of the president and the parliament from the head of the parliamentary delegation in the committee, Jalal Al-Shuwaihidi, adding that “no one meeting the known conditions for candidacy is excluded.”

Aguila further mentioned that “the law approved by the 6+6 committee, according to the constitutional amendment, grants every citizen the right to run for office, whether civilian or military, without excluding anyone. Those who do not win in the elections can return to their previous positions.”

“The law took into account all the considerations and circumstances that the country is going through, achieving equality in political work,” Aguila said, expressing his gratitude to the 6+6 committee for accomplishing this work.

He regarded it as “the foundation for unifying authority in the country and realizing the Libyans’ desire for presidential and parliamentary elections.”
