Libya’s State Council says it adheres to election laws

Libya’s High State Council, which acts as a senate, said Wednesday it adheres to the electoral laws drawn up by the 6+6 Joint Committee.

“The High Council decided today to adhere to the outcomes of the 6+6 committee signed unanimously by its members in Bouznika, Morocco, on June 3, 2023,” the Tripoli-based assembly said in a statement.

The announcement came two days after the House of Representatives (parliament) in East Libya on Monday approved electoral laws drawn by the committee.

The 6+6 Joint Committee is formed jointly by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State for the purpose of preparing the electoral laws.

In June, the 6+6 committee issued laws to regulate Libya’s upcoming presidential and legislative elections, but faced some objections.
