Madagascar confirms five mpox cases in Mahajanga

Madagascar has confirmed five cases of mpox in the northwestern city of Mahajanga, health authorities said.

Public Health Minister Monira Managna said the infections were verified through laboratory testing and urged residents to stay alert and follow prevention guidance.

Government spokesperson Gascar Fenosoa said officials have activated a response plan that includes regular public updates, along with the deployment of a coordination and surveillance team.

He added that an emergency public health operations centre has been set up in Mahajanga to identify additional cases, isolate infected patients and support treatment.

Authorities are also tightening screening and health checks at key entry points, including ports and airports, Fenosoa said.
