Major food aid push underway in famine-hit Sudan

The war between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan-controlled (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, leading to widespread hunger and disease.

The World Food Programme FP spokesperson, Leni Kinzli, highlighted the recent clearance received from the Sudanese government, enabling the organization to transport aid to hard-to-reach areas.

The onset of the dry season has also provided a favorable window for these operations.

The food aid convoys will be clearly marked to facilitate access.

A portion of the aid is designated for 14 regions facing famine or imminent famine, including the critical Zamzam camp in Darfur.

The initial food delivery to Zamzam camp on Friday was met with jubilation from residents who had resorted to consuming animal feed due to severe food shortages.

A second convoy is currently en route to the camp.

Burhan who controls the airports, has announced the designation of three airports in SAF-controlled areas as humanitarian hubs.

This move is expected to streamline aid deliveries and improve access to vulnerable populations.
