The decomposed bodies of South African journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner, Zodwa Precious Mdhluli, have been discovered more than two months after they went missing, according to local media reports.
Police confirmed the discovery of human remains in a bush in northern Limpopo province. While DNA tests are still pending to officially confirm the identities, media organizations have stated that forensic analysis has already identified the remains as those of Ndlovu and Mdhluli.
Ndlovu, the founder of Capital Live, a local radio station in Pretoria, and his partner had been missing since February 18. The couple’s deaths have sent shockwaves through the media community, with several local press groups expressing their disbelief and sorrow.
In a joint statement, the African Media and Communicators Forum (AMCF) and the National Press Club (NPC) announced that police had made a breakthrough in the case, arresting five suspects. These individuals were apprehended with stolen items, including furniture, appliances, and parts of the couple’s vehicle.
“I am terribly sad. We held out hope that despite the many days they were missing, they would still be found alive. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of our brother and sister,” said AMCF chair Elijah Mhlanga.
South Africa’s crime rate remains one of the highest globally, and the murder of Ndlovu and Mdhluli has added to the growing sense of fear and insecurity among the public. Authorities continue their investigation as the country grapples with this devastating loss.
