A Moroccan UN peacekeeper and an interpreter tragically died in a road accident in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Their vehicle veered off a road near Kitchanga in North Kivu province. The vehicle slid into a ravine, leading to the fatal incident.
MONUSCO confirmed the death of the Moroccan soldier and the Congolese language assistant.
Four other Moroccan soldiers sustained injuries in the same accident.
They were transported to the UN hospital in Goma for medical treatment.
The M23 armed group currently holds the city of Goma.
MONUSCO, with almost 13,800 personnel, is a significant UN peacekeeping mission.
Sadly, over 400 personnel have perished since its operations began in 1999.
