Morocco grapples with floods in the aftermath of devastating earthquake

While Moroccans are still dealing with the devastating earthquake aftermath that struck the country last Saturday, the southern part of the country has witnessed flash floods.

On Friday, the city of Midelt in southeastern Morocco experienced massive floods. Reports indicate that the rains have been ongoing in the eastern part of the country for the past 12 hours, leading to these floods.

Moroccan authorities race against time to provide relief to earthquake survivors and address the needs of hundreds of thousands of affected individuals, especially in remote areas, staying in the open or in tents.

It’s worth noting that this earthquake is the most powerful to hit Morocco since 2004 and resulted in around 3,000 fatalities.

Some earthquake experts have also mentioned the possibility of aftershocks continuing for weeks or months, but the strength of these aftershocks is not expected to exceed the magnitude of the original earthquake.
