Mozambique prison break death toll hits 248

The death toll in Mozambique has tragically surpassed 248 amid ongoing protests and escalating violence, according to the election monitoring group Plataforma Decide.

These figures reflect the grim reality of the situation following the disputed presidential election held on October 9th.

A major escalation occurred on Wednesday when hundreds of inmates, including “highly dangerous” terrorists, escaped from Maputo Central Prison.

The prison break, triggered by a protest outside the facility, has further destabilized the country.

The disputed election results, which declared incumbent President Filipe Nyusi the victor, have sparked widespread protests and civil unrest.

The opposition leader, Venancio Mondlane, has rejected the results, alleging widespread vote rigging.

This ongoing crisis has had a significant impact on the country, with fuel shortages and a growing humanitarian crisis affecting the population.

The situation remains volatile, with concerns mounting over the potential for further violence and instability.
