NGO documents 54 deaths in Sudan’s Khartoum and North Kordofan

A statement issued by the Emergency Lawyers, a legal rights group active in monitoring violations and crimes against civilians during the ongoing fighting, stated: “The group has documented about 54 killed and 164 injured in both the Al-Nau Hospital in Omdurman, which came under shelling near Jebel Aulia south of Khartoum, and in the city of Al-Obaid in North Kordofan over the past two days.”

According to the statement, a rocket hit Al-Nau Hospital in Omdurman this morning, resulting in the preliminary toll of 3 people killed and 20 others injured.

“More than 15 hospitals have been targeted by shelling from the warring parties.” Emergency Lawyers said

The statement mentions that over 45 people were killed and 90 injured during artillery shelling on Jebel Aulia, approximately 45 kilometers south of Khartoum, on Saturday. The injured were transported to Jebel Aulia Hospital, Jar Alnabi Hospital and Al-Qateena Hospital in the White Nile State.

Emergency Lawyers also indicated that six people were killed and 54 others injured on Sunday in Al-Obeid City, the capital of North Kordofan State, due to clashes between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The statement emphasized that the lack of consideration for the safety of civilians and the targeting of hospitals by the warring parties constitutes a war crime. It noted that some of the wounded have succumbed to their injuries due to a shortage of medical services.

The statement called on the conflicting parties to adhere to a cessation of indiscriminate bombing, refrain from targeting medical facilities, open safe passages, and establish field clinics to provide assistance for civilians and prevent further loss of life.
