Nigerian army suffers casualties in Boko Haram assault in Yobe

Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military base in Nigeria’s northeastern Yobe State on Saturday, killing at least four soldiers.

Several pieces of operational equipment were also destroyed in the assault, according to military sources on Sunday.

The terrorists targeted the base of the Nigerian Army’s 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Yadi town, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Arriving in large numbers, the insurgents fired indiscriminately and overpowered the security personnel on duty, a military source told Anadolu Agency anonymously.

“We were caught off guard and outnumbered,” the source stated, adding that the terrorists also suffered casualties during the hours-long fierce battle.

The military confirmed the attack on its official social media, but provided no further details.

This incident occurred a day after the North East Governors Forum in Yobe adopted a multidimensional approach to combat insurgency in the region.

The attack marks the latest in a series of attacks plaguing northern Nigeria, underscoring the persistent security challenges in the area.
