At least five Cameroonian soldiers were killed and several others wounded in an attack by Nigerian gunmen in the border village of Bakinjaw, according to an MP and a local traditional leader.
The attack, which occurred early Friday morning, involved hundreds of armed Fulani herdsmen who crossed the border from Taraba state in Nigeria.
According to Aka Martin Tyoga, the MP for the Akwaya district, the attack was believed to be in retaliation for the killing of several herdsmen by Cameroonian soldiers the previous day.
Agwa Linus, the traditional ruler of Bakinjaw, confirmed the attack and reported that his home was also burned down.
This incident marks the latest in a series of attacks in the border region.
