Nigerian military refutes allegations of coup plot

The Nigerian army has released an uncommon statement refuting claims of an alleged coup plot circulating within its ranks.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) emphatically dismissed the assertion as untrue and urged the public to disregard it.

This response comes in the wake of a report by the Sahara Reporters news site, which suggested that the Presidential Guard, an elite military unit tasked with safeguarding the president, had been activated due to suspicions of a coup.

The report further claimed that emergency meetings had taken place with the Nigerian president in response to the alleged threat.

In contradiction to these claims, the DHQ emphasized its unwavering dedication to safeguarding and upholding democracy in Nigeria.

It is worth noting that Nigeria is currently grappling with a severe economic crisis, with some expressing concerns that the country is on the verge of a critical juncture.
