Nigerian troops killed at least 45 suspected bandits during a clash in the Danmusa area of Katsina state in northern Nigeria, the state government said on Saturday.
According to a government statement, the violence followed an attack by armed gangs from neighboring Zamfara state who rode into Alhazawa village in Musawa on March 5 and attempted to steal cattle.
The assailants returned the following day and encountered soldiers stationed at the army’s Forward Operating Base in Dan Ali near Maidabino ward, triggering a firefight.
Troops killed 45 of the attackers during the clash, the statement said.
A Nigerian army captain and two soldiers were also killed in the fighting.
