One soldier killed, two wounded in a militant attack in western Mali

The Malian armed forces and local officials reported that one soldier was killed, and two others were injured in an attack in the western part of the country.

The governorate of the town of Nara, located near the Mauritanian border, received a statement from a security source indicating that the armed forces conducted airstrikes on multiple terrorist hideouts in the region on Friday, local media reported.

“On the enemy side, the provisional report shows seven (7) terrorists neutralised, two (2) prisoners, weapons and materials recovered”, it said.

In a social media post, the armed forces reported a complex ambush occurring between the towns of Nara and Guire. They stated that the dead and wounded were currently being evacuated from the area.

Since 2012, Mali, which is now governed by a military junta, has been contending with a militant insurgency that has extended to Burkina Faso and Niger, leading to significant casualties and displacements.
