A plane was downed in Sudan’s North Darfur state with Russian crew members aboard that the plane was used by Burhan’s army to resupply al Fashir, according to rival Rapid Support Forces.
The incident highlights the complex supply networks in Sudan’s 18-month war, which has caused widespread hunger and foreign involvement.
Documents and social media indicate the plane supplying Burhan’s forces.
The RSF shared footage and photos of the wreckage and IDs of two Russians on board. Analysis confirms the plane matched a Russian-made Ilyushin IL76 cargo plane.
Russia’s embassy is investigating the incident, and Burhan has not commented.
The war began after tensions between the RSF and Burhan’s army, both receiving foreign support.
Flight data showed EX-76011 flying to Chad until late 2023, then to Port Sudan.
The plane’s safety instructions matched New Way Cargo, but NeWay Logistics LLC denies any connection.
One crew member, Victor Granov, has links to arms trafficking. Another crew member, Anton Selivanets, has ties to the World Food Programme.
The RSF shared a video of the wreckage, identifying Russian Alexander Kabanov.
