Protests erupt over deadly Tunisian school accident

Hundreds of Tunisians took to the streets on Tuesday, their voices a chorus of outrage after a tragic school wall collapse.

The incident in the central town of Mazzouna claimed the lives of three students preparing for crucial exams on Monday.

Two other students sustained serious injuries, according to Civil Defense reports.  

The collapse of the dilapidated structure ignited widespread anger, with protesters decrying official negligence.

Demonstrators believe this tragedy is a stark reflection of Tunisia’s crumbling public services and neglected infrastructure.

This decay unfolds against a backdrop of a deepening economic and social crisis gripping the nation.  

Witnesses recounted scenes of fiery protest as demonstrators burned tires and blocked roadways, their fury also directed at a government vehicle.

The intensity of the unrest led to the closure of all shops and schools within the affected area.

Protesters converged near the National Guard headquarters in Mazzouna, chanting slogans against social marginalization and demanding accountability through the dismissal of implicated officials.  

Solidarity protests rippled through the capital, Tunis, where hundreds of young people voiced their dissent.

Raising anti-government slogans, they echoed the calls for resignation in the wake of the devastating accident.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

A judicial spokesperson confirmed the arrest of the school principal as the inquiry commences.
