Intense fighting broke out Friday between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) near the SAF’s 22nd Division headquarters in the contested town of Babanusa, as RSF forces reportedly closed in on the military stronghold.
According to local sources, RSF fighters captured the headquarters of the 189th Brigade and several other strategic positions in the area. The RSF has also laid siege to the 22nd Division’s base, tightening its hold on the western Kordofan town.
Witnesses told Assayha newspaper that RSF units broke through SAF defensive lines and inflicted heavy casualties on junta forces and allied militias. They said SAF troops were seen retreating into trenches under heavy fire.
Clashes remain ongoing, and the area is witnessing some of the fiercest combat since the conflict began. The SAF has not commented on the latest developments.
