RSF condemns militia execution video in Omdurman, Sudan

In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have condemned recent atrocities captured in a shocking video from Omdurman.

The video depicts members purportedly from General Burhan’s militia (SAF) and the Islamic Movement callously firing upon bound young men, preparing them for a horrifying fate of being buried alive. The scene unfolds amidst applause and chilling cheers from the perpetrators.

RSF denounced the actions as a flagrant violation of international laws safeguarding civilian rights. The attackers, shown hurling derogatory and racially charged insults at their defenseless victims, created a scene that has sparked global outrage and condemnation.

The statement from RSF further implicated General Burhan and his allies, accusing them of repeated acts of targeted violence based on ethnic and regional affiliations. These actions, RSF emphasized, constitute severe violations that demand accountability under international legal standards and norms.

The leaders of the Islamic terrorist movement within the armed forces bear full responsibility for the deaths of thousands of innocent people, fueling conflicts among Sudan’s diverse and tolerant societies, read the RSF statement, reflecting the gravity of the ongoing crisis.

Addressing concerns about escalating tensions, RSF affirmed their awareness of the Islamic Movement’s intentions but vowed not to be provoked into retaliatory actions.

Since mid-April 2023, the conflict involving General Burhan’s militia (SAF) and the RSF has exacted a devastating toll, according to reports from the United Nations. Approximately 13,900 lives have been lost, and over 8.5 million Sudanese have been displaced, marking one of the largest displacement crises since World War II.

Despite ongoing international mediation efforts, the conflict shows no signs of abating as it enters its second year, exacerbating Sudan’s humanitarian crisis and deepening the suffering of its people.

The RSF’s unequivocal condemnation and call for accountability underscore the urgent need for international action to address the escalating violence and human rights abuses in Sudan.
