RSF leader praises Geneva efforts to end Sudan conflict

Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has praised the efforts made during the Geneva negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Sudan in a statement.

He highlighted on early Saturday the importance of facilitating humanitarian aid and enhancing civilian protection as key outcomes of these discussions.

General Dagalo expressed gratitude towards the mediation team led by the United States, and acknowledged the joint hosting by Switzerland and Saudi Arabia.

He also appreciated the monitoring roles played by the United Nations, the African Union, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.

He emphasized that forming a joint group among these entities is a hopeful step towards achieving peace and stability in war-ravaged Sudan.

The RSF delegation, according to Dagalo, participated in the Geneva negotiations with genuine intentions to alleviate the humanitarian crisis faced by the Sudanese people.

However, he criticized the absence of the Burhan-controlled SAF delegation, which he said is influenced by the Islamic Movement.

Dagalo argued that this absence has hindered mediation efforts and could prolong the conflict, exacerbating the suffering of the Sudanese population.

Dagalo reaffirmed the RSF’s commitment to the pledges made during the Switzerland meeting, particularly the simplified notification system to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery.

He stressed the importance of mitigating the effects of the conflict on the Sudanese people and reiterated the RSF’s dedication to these efforts.

The RSF leader also stated that they are open to engaging with any serious initiative aimed at ending the war and building a just and inclusive Sudan.

He noted that the RSF did not initiate the conflict and expressed a strong desire to see it end in a manner that ensures it will be the last war Sudan faces.
