RSF leader Dagalo arrives in Kenya for government pact signing

Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), arrived in Nairobi late Sunday, accompanied by leaders of armed movements and allied groups, to sign a political charter for a “Peace Government” in RSF-controlled areas and other regions.

Rebel leader El-Hadi Idris, head of the Sudan Revolutionary Front, confirmed preparations to announce a civilian government in these territories following the signing. He stated that multiple countries have assured recognition for the new administration, expected to be declared after February 18.

Idris emphasized that the agreement aims to end the war, address the root causes of Sudan’s crisis, and promote national unity, including within the military. He wrote on X, “We have outlined the necessity of forming this government, which will be a government of peace for all Sudan.”

The formation of this administration had been anticipated as Nairobi sought to halt the ongoing war between the RSF and the SAF.

The political charter is scheduled to be signed on Wednesday in Nairobi, with the new government expected to be announced in Sudan shortly thereafter. Idris noted that the charter would be open for signature by all parties, including the SAF, if there was a will to do so.

The international community is closely monitoring these developments, as the formation of a new government in Sudan could have significant implications for the country’s future stability and peace efforts.
