Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said Thursday it will enter a humanitarian truce proposed by the “Quad” — the United States, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt — aiming to ease the war’s toll on civilians and expand aid access.
In a statement on its Telegram channel, the RSF said it looks forward to implementing the arrangement and to “immediately commencing” discussions on ceasefire modalities and guiding principles for a political process that addresses root causes of the conflict. It thanked the Quad for “sincere and intensive efforts,” led by the United States.
The Quad has pressed since September for a multi-month humanitarian pause that would open the way to a permanent ceasefire and a transition to civilian rule.
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s army (SAF) has publicly rejected the U.S. proposal this week, vowing to continue fighting the RSF. The former partners in Sudan’s transitional authority went to war in April 2023 amid a dispute over integrating forces.
