Russia has approved plans for a fuel pipeline in the Republic of Congo, according to a government decree released late Monday.
The pipeline will connect the western port city of Pointe-Noire with the capital, Brazzaville.
Under the agreement, a joint venture will be established, with Russia holding a 90% stake. Details regarding the technical and economic aspects will be finalized in a concession agreement.
Russia has committed to providing funding, equipment, and personnel for the pipeline’s construction, as well as supplying the fuel needed to fill it. In return, the Republic of Congo is expected to grant various tax incentives.
This development is part of Russia’s broader strategy to strengthen ties with African nations following its deteriorated relations with the West due to the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
