Russia pledges support to Haftar’s Libyan forces

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov has committed to bolstering the capabilities of the Libyan Eastern Forces, led by Khalifa Haftar, according to a statement released on Saturday.

This commitment was made during a meeting in Benghazi between Yevkurov and Haftar, who serves as the general commander of the Libyan Eastern Forces. The announcement was shared on the Libyan Eastern Forces’ Facebook page.

Yevkurov, accompanied by a high-level delegation, landed at Benina International Airport in Benghazi on Friday, marking his fifth visit to the city since August 2023.

During their meeting, Haftar welcomed the Russian delegation, underscoring the strong relationship between the two sides and highlighting “the importance of developing it in military and economic fields.”
