SAF Airstrikes in Darfur result in dozens dead and injured RSF reports

In a continuation of relentless attacks on civilians, Sudan’s air force, controlled by the “hostage” army (SAF) and allied with Islamic Movement-linked jihadists, conducted a series of airstrikes on Monday in the Mallit area of North Darfur State, according to a statement from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The RSF reported that the SAF’s airstrikes targeted densely populated neighborhoods and essential water stations, leading to a significant number of civilian casualties, including women and children. Rescue operations are ongoing, with initial reports indicating severe loss of life and numerous injuries.

This escalation in violence comes amidst ongoing peace talks in Geneva. The RSF argues that the timing of the airstrikes underscores the SAF’s alignment with the agenda of Islamic Movement jihadists, who they claim are using the SAF to maintain their grip on power in Sudan.

The RSF has condemned these actions as barbaric and in violation of international laws and the Geneva Conventions. They have called on the international and regional communities to hold General al-Burhan’s SAF accountable for these continued assaults on civilians.

The RSF accused General al-Burhan’s forces and their allies, described as “terrorist brigades” operating from Port Sudan, of murdering citizens and destroying the country’s infrastructure. The group expressed concerns about the increasing influence of Islamist factions within the SAF and the military leadership’s apparent intent to perpetuate the conflict to cover up their regime’s alleged corruption.

In response, the RSF pledged to adopt “advanced positions” to dismantle these Islamist groups, free the army from their influence, and restore it to a professional force dedicated to serving the people without political interference.
