Mali and Burkina Faso have announced the killing of 41 suspected terrorists in separate operations conducted over the past three days.
Burkina Faso’s military reported killing 11 terrorists and capturing two more in Nayala province.
The operation, carried out by the 23rd Rapid Intervention Battalion, also resulted in the seizure of weapons and equipment.
In a separate incident, Mali’s armed forces, operating as part of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), conducted an airstrike in the Menaka region.
The strike reportedly killed approximately 30 terrorists, including key leaders and fighters from the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS).
The Malian military also claimed to have destroyed a significant amount of ISGS logistical supplies.
These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by Sahel nations to combat the growing threat of terrorism in the region.
Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger recently formed the AES and withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), pledging to deploy a joint force of 5,000 soldiers to address security challenges.
