Sean Williams ends Zimbabwe career after entering drug rehab

Sean Williams ends Zimbabwe career after entering rehab, says cricket board Zimbabwe all-rounder and former captain Sean Williams has withdrawn from international cricket after entering a rehabilitation program for drug addiction, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) announced. The board said the 39-year-old made himself unavailable for selection and will not be considered for future squads.

Williams, who has scored nearly 9,000 international runs and taken more than 150 wickets across formats, pulled out of the T20 side ahead of September’s Africa Qualifier in Harare. During an internal review into his withdrawal, ZC said Williams disclosed his struggle with addiction and sought treatment.

Citing past disciplinary issues and repeated unavailability affecting team preparations, ZC said it would not renew his national contract when it expires on 31 December. The board thanked Williams for two decades of service and wished him well in recovery.
