Senegal reports more new Rift Valley fever cases with one death

Senegal’s health ministry reported 15 new Rift Valley fever cases and one additional death, bringing totals to 302 cases and 26 fatalities.

The outbreak now affects eight regions, up from six yesterday, with Saint-Louis hardest hit at 249 cases.

Thies and Tambacounda reported their first cases, expanding the epidemic’s geographic reach.

Of the confirmed cases, 227 patients have recovered, highlighting ongoing treatment efforts.

Former Health Minister Awa Marie Coll Seck urged top-level government involvement and a multi-sectoral approach to contain the outbreak.

She stressed the “One Health” concept, linking human, animal, and environmental surveillance to prevent further spread.

Senegalese authorities continue monitoring the situation closely, aiming to control the outbreak and protect public health.
