Severe flooding in Chad claims 503 lives

Severe flooding that has plagued Chad since July has resulted in a tragic loss of life and widespread devastation.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the floods have claimed the lives of 503 people and affected approximately 1.7 million residents.  

The impact of the flooding has been far-reaching.

Homes have been destroyed, with 212,111 houses damaged or lost. Agricultural lands have been inundated, affecting 357,832 hectares (885,000 acres) of fields.

The livestock sector has also suffered, with 69,659 heads of cattle lost due to drowning.
